Pirana
27 ¾” X 31 ½”
Oil on canvas

Sebastian Diaz's hyper-realistic oil on canvas paintings capture everyday objects. At times his work is pure still life and at others it is surreal. Oranges, orchids and Paraguayan pottery are common themes in Diaz's work, and they give his paintings a distinctively Paraguayan touch. Diaz creates still life paintings that have a unique sense of place. The pores on each orange, the fleshy texture of the orange once the peel is pulled away, and the delicate petals of the orchid sit on the canvas in photographic perfection.

Sebastian Diaz was born in Horqueta, Paraguay in 1964. In 2000, he studied at the Esquela Nacional Superior de Bellas Artes de Paris in Paris, France. He currently lives and paints in Asuncion, Paraguay. His work is included in private collections in the United States, Europe, Asia, Africa and South America.
